Speak your shoppers' language
Synonyms, filters and out-of-stock items
Shoppers don't always use the words in your product titles, they narrow results in their own way, and they get frustrated when the first thing they find is sold out. These three guides cover the settings that close those gaps: synonyms for the words your shoppers use, filters that fit your catalog, and clear rules for out-of-stock products.
Why the shopper's words matter
A shopper in Riyadh may type جوال, another موبايل, and your product titles may say هاتف. Someone looking for sneakers may search for trainers. When the words don't line up, a shopper can miss a product you have in stock and leave thinking you don't sell it.
Finding the product is only half of it. Shoppers then need to narrow a long list quickly and see items they can actually buy. That is why synonyms, filters and out-of-stock settings belong together: each one removes a reason to give up before checkout.
Where each setting fits
All three live under Search in your AlFinder dashboard, and each takes a few minutes to set up.
- Synonyms connect the words shoppers type to the words your catalog uses.
- Filters let shoppers narrow results by price, category, brand, color or size, in the order that suits your products.
- Out-of-stock settings decide whether sold-out items are hidden, shown as usual, or kept but placed after what is available.
A sensible order to set them up
Start with out-of-stock products, since it is one decision that affects every search. Then set your filters once, based on how shoppers choose products in your category: size and color for fashion, brand and price for electronics or perfume.
Synonyms are ongoing work. Check the searches that bring back nothing useful every week or two, and add synonyms for the words you recognise. Over time, your search learns the language your shoppers actually use.
