Help shoppers before they type

How to show popular keywords and products when shoppers open your store's search

In the dashboard, open Search and use the Pinned keywords, Pinned products and Pinned categories tabs. Turn each one on, give it a section title, and add up to 20 items. They appear the moment a shopper taps your search bar, before they type a single letter.

Why the empty search bar is prime space

When a shopper taps the search bar, they have just told you they are ready to look for something. Without pinned content, all they see is a blinking cursor. With it, they see ready-made searches, products and ranges they can open with one tap.

This helps most on mobile, where typing is slow, and for shoppers who are browsing rather than hunting for one product.

Three kinds of pinned content

Each kind has its own tab, its own on and off switch and its own section title, so you can use one, two or all three.

  • Pinned keywords are one-tap searches. A tap on "smartwatch" or "دهن عود" runs that search straight away. You write each keyword in every language your store supports.
  • Pinned products put your own picks right under the search bar: best sellers, new arrivals or a product on offer. You decide whether their price shows, separately from normal search results.
  • Pinned categories send shoppers to a whole range in one tap, such as women's perfumes, abayas or phone accessories.

Ideas for different stores and seasons

A perfume store might pin keywords like دهن عود, بخور and gift sets, with its best-selling perfumes as pinned products. An abaya store could pin new collections before Eid. An electronics store might pin chargers and headphones as keywords and the latest phones as products. A grocery store could pin its weekly offers.

For keywords, start from data rather than guesses. Search Analytics shows what your shoppers search for most, and those words make strong pinned keywords.

Common mistakes

Forgetting to save. Items you add or reorder are saved straight away, but turning a section on and editing its title only take effect after you click Save changes.

Leaving stale picks in place. A Ramadan offer pinned in summer, or a product that sold out, wastes the best spot in your search. The pinned products list marks out-of-stock items so you can swap them.

Filling one language only. If a section title is blank in a language, that title is hidden for shoppers browsing in it, so fill each language you sell in.

How to set it up

  1. 1In the dashboard, open Search and select Pinned keywords.
  2. 2Turn on Enable pinned keywords and write the Section title in each language.
  3. 3Click Add keyword, write the keyword in each language and save it. Drag keywords to set their order.
  4. 4Open Pinned products, turn on Enable pinned products, set the title, choose Show price on pinned products, then click Add product and pick your products.
  5. 5Open Pinned categories, turn on Enable pinned categories, set the title, then click Add category.
  6. 6Click Save changes, then tap the search bar on your storefront without typing.

Common questions

How many keywords, products and categories can I pin?

Up to 20 of each. A short, focused list usually works better than a full one, because shoppers scan it in a second.

Can I choose the order they appear in?

Yes. Drag items up or down in each tab. The new order is saved immediately.

Do pinned products also rank higher in search results?

No. Pinned content shows only in the empty search bar, before the shopper types. To push products to the top of the results for a search, use Merchandising.

Can I hide the section title?

Yes. Leave the title blank in a language and no title is shown above that section for shoppers browsing in that language.
